The days that never were

Time flies … It’s been one year exactly since I published this poem:

Now that you’ve been gone a while

I realise it isn’t you I miss

It is the idea of what we could have been

A whispered dream of days that never were

A secret hope for nothings sweet

The fading thought of you and me

Now that you’ve been silent for so long

I realise it isn’t you I miss

It is the echo of a warmth that might have been

A tender and forgiving bond that never was

A subtle longing for words of healing and repair

The fading thought of you and me

  1. The courting of the dream never plays out its role, never receives justice, if the pleading of innocent love is scorned by the purported lover who testifies to nothing but an offer of a rose that soon wilts without payment.
